Whim Anglican Primary School (St. Michael’s) is situated on a hillside off the quiet Scarborough to Plymouth Road, perched on the top of a small hill in the peaceful and tranquil village of Mary’s Hill. A village school, that has been at the centre of the communities it serves for many years. It welcomes students from Spring Garden, Whim, Union, Mt Grace and Mary's Hill (the S.W.U.M community). A united village community with both a cultural and sporting legacy, S.W.U.M. has both positive and negative impacts on the lives of the members of the community and by extension the school.
Whim Anglican Primary School is part of a strong and nurturing community and prides itself on firmly holding the pupils’ best interests at the heart of everything we do, and in offering an all-round experience for every student. We have developed an excellent reputation for providing a welcoming, involved and academically diverse environment for our students, the results of which can be seen in our increased student numbers of the last five to seven years. The whole child is being nurtured at Whim Anglican Primary School-St Michaels not only through the Religious Education and strong academic programs, but also through extra-curricular programs in our dynamic learning community from Infant One to Standard Five. Our classroom programs are progressive and personalized, catering to the needs of our students, encouraging parental involvement and promoting active learning. The school has high but achievable student expectations with student progress being monitored regularly and this information used to inform teaching practices.
Our aim is to develop confident and resilient students through the provision of a diverse range of learning experiences and challenges which encourage curiosity, excitement for learning, thirst for knowledge and connectedness to their community.
At Whim we believe and strongly encourage the home, school community partnership as a tool for our success. A popular mantra of our school family is “teamwork makes the dream work”
